AND I JUST GOT MY TWIC CARD
I RATHER HAVE A LOCAL JOB.
BUT IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT I'LL DO OVER THE ROAD.
I'DE LIKE TO TRY YARD DRIVER.
I am an American citizen, born and raised in California. I have lived here all my life. Went to school, worked and got married in this state. My son and daughter were born here as well. I have strong family and community ties. I speak English and Spanish fluently. I am also bi-literate. My goal has always been to become a truck driver. A goal I was able to accomplish in September 2006. My goal now is to work for a company that will benefit from my work history and that I benefit as an employee with them.
I understand that being a successful truck driver involves a lot more than sitting behind the wheel and driving a truck all day. I also understand truck drivers are not held in the highest regard today, but in spite of all that, I have multiple skills that make me a great driver. I deliver every work load in a fast, friendly and safe manner with great customer service as well.
I am the kind of driver that has excellent communication and people skills. There is never any confusion between the dispatcher and myself. I work well with customers, and do my best to resolve any delivery issues or pick up problems. No matter what phase of the job, I am in constant contact with people that need to know what my status is. I am able to get along well with others.
Modern electronics and GPS have made things easier, even so I am able to navigate well, particularly inside a large semi-truck, and at the same time be aware of roads that can and cannot be traveled on. Even with electronics, I am able to read maps in case I find myself in a remote area where my GPS keeps "recalculating". I am always aware of all clearances and I make sure the truck and trailer can safely pass under them.
In my 10 years of experience, truck driving has formed my character and made me a reliable and responsible person. Over the years I have acquired many important skills that have helped me become a success in my truck driving career. I know that my job can be a dangerous proposition and I must be constantly aware of all others on the road to help prevent accidents and mishaps. It goes without saying; I always follow the rules of the road and all laws, such as the posted speed limit. Former employers have equipped me with valuable information like the Smith System, Personnel Policies which I firmly believe make me unique driver.
As in many other contracted fields, self-motivation is very important and I have acquired this skill. It helps me as a driver to perform at my very best. It's so easy to hit the "snooze" button on that alarm after a long haul, but being motivated has helped me make the delivery on time.
With the latest regulations, there is more and more paperwork that must be done on a daily basis. All logs, electronic or otherwise, must be filled out correctly to avoid troubles with regulators and employers. Speaking of electronic laws, I have acquired advanced computer skills that can also be very helpful. I know that trip packets have to be completed as well as accurate expense reports to either get paid or as deductions on tax returns.
With so much time spent alone on the road, in "out of the way" places, sometimes I am able to save a trip because of my basic mechanical skills and a thorough understanding of semi-truck operations, as well as my great resource skills. With these skills, as a professional truck driver I am able to identify problems before they cause a breakdown and may be able to recommend some preventative maintenance tips as well to make some of the necessary repairs. I am good at finding the best deals around me to save a great deal of time and money in shop repairs.
Being a truck driver with a great heart and knowledge, and having all of these skills has made me a person that cares and looks out for my employer's best interest. As an experienced driver with my skills it will also help to maintain a long and strong relationship with my employer and generally making every one's life a whole lot easier.
The purpose of this letter is to insure you that my techniques, experience, attitude and skills will get your order delivered safely and on time.
I hope to hear from you soon.
