Job Duties
• Provide assistance and training to STARS to achieve personal outcomes that characterize a high quality of life.
• Communicate with STARS and staff in a positive, clear, respectful manner at all times.
• Provide support STARS to choose, understand and learn new skills.
• Understand, follow through, and document support plans, goals, activities, progress, etc.
• Provide support with daily living skills and personal support needs.
• Facilitate activities that provide STARS with social capital and connections to the community.
• Demonstrate fairness.
• Assist STARS in planning and structuring activities.
• Provide support to Stars to exercise their rights and responsibilities in all areas of their lives.
• Use person-first or preferred language when appropriate.
• Maintain confidentiality and support privacy at all times according to company policy and procedures and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996).
• Engage in conversation with STARS and include them in discussions about their lives.
• Support and encourage STARS to have optimal health and wellbeing.
• Understand and follow supports for optimal health.
• Ensure that people are free from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
• Provide safeguards and appropriately support challenging situations.
• Follow outlined financial supports.
• Document program data, including but not limited to: Star Performance Plan data, Star improvement plan data, community integration logs, assessments, individual funds requests, mileage logs, maintenance requests forms, and supply acquisition forms.
• Document STARS health (i.e. seizure charts, bowel movements, fluid intake.);
• Complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Clock in and out before and after every shift and submits time off request per company policy
• Provide assistance during transportation.
• Provide support and supervision during meal times according to STAR needs (i.e. Choking risk)
• Supervises mealtimes based on STAR needs, especially those identified as a risk for choking;
• Reports unsafe conditions, environment, and equipment to the Star Coordinator and/ or Assistant Director
• Follows safety protocols to foster a safe working environment;
• Support individuals with positive behavioral techniques to avoid challenging situations and promote respect and dignity.
• Follow Morning Star code of safe driving practices.
• Know the proper techniques and be able to respond to emergencies such as accidents, fires, earthquakes, or other situations
• Uphold agency values.
• Understand and follow through with agency systems and protocols.
• Follow Morning Star employee attendance policy.
• Complete needed trainings by established deadlines.
• Maximize and responsibly utilize agency and community resources.
• Complete duties assigned by supervisor or designee.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• All other duties and responsibilities as assigned

• High School diploma or GED
• Experience working with individuals with autism and other developmental
disabilities; prefer 3-5 years.
• Must be able to work effectively as a team member, demonstrate flexibility and desire to learn new skills and improve professional qualifications, and travel independently in rural/remote locations.
• Current CPR and First Aid training required.
• Vehicle in good working order to utilize for transportation required for staff and program participants to community activities.
• Star Advocates must be willing to carry auto insurance with liability limits no less than 100k/300k/50k at all times during employment (incurred cost by employee)
• Vehicles must pass an annual auto inspection (Paid for by Morning Star)
• Ability to pass DOJ fingerprint clearance (Live Scan)
• Ability to pass pre employment physical to include TB test and Drug screening
• Must have a clear driving record, valid CA driver's license, and 2 years driving experience, safe reliable transportation, and proof of current vehicle insurance.
