This 37 year old guitar is in very good condition, and weighs in at a desirable 7 lbs 10 oz.

This guitar bares some historical provenance. Fender USA, in Fullerton, closed at the end of 1984 following years of declining quality. In 1985 all of the Fenders were made in Japan. In 1986 the new, employee owned Fender company in production facilities in Corona, CA. That year saw them producing American Vintage Reissue series strats and teles, with full productions of the new American Standard Stratocasters and Telecaster hitting full stride in ‘87. This 1987 American Standard Strat is one of those. See the date written in pencil on neck heal. Also the initial “J”. Was it one of the famous John’s from this era? I don’t know. But, quality, great playing guitars was a matter of survival.

It has all original electronics, pick-ups, neck, body, tuners, trem block, bridge, trem arm, jack. Not original are black pickguard, black pick-up covers, black volume and tone knobs, also including TBX tone control on second tone control. The original owner was a young punk rocker who sprayed all of these parts back. He also sprayed the headstock black. The next owner replaced those (formerly white) parts with new fender black parts. I have the original parts that are included and pictured except for the pickguard. The guy who owned it before me sanded down and refinished the face of the headstock and applied a fender Strat water decal, but it is not correct for this year, (should be E series). Which is why my price is way lower than any other 87 USA Strat on the internet! It is currently similar to the the Gilmour blackout Strat, come with original 6” trem bar and a 5” ala Gilmour. The jack plate still has black paint on it. I tried to capture all of the scratched and light dings. The finish on the maple neck has some wear along the edge of the neck. Lots of fret life left and the guitar plays and sound like a top notch American Strat should.

Also comes with fender gig bag.

I will meet up in so cal.

I will also entertain trades. I’m particularly interested in MIJ TL62 tele or quality amps.
