Seeking extremely reliable and positive person to engage in learning activities and social and community outings with a 21-year-old young man with autism. He is highly motivated to interact and learn. He loves to ride his bike, roller skate, do jigsaw puzzles, work on his academic goals outside of school, go to the movies, go grocery shopping, etc. He participates in the Relationship Development Intervention (RDI) program which focuses primarily on remediating social deficits. Applicant must be willing to undergo RDI training (which you are paid for) and utilize this approach in interactions and teaching. He is generally calm, happy and agreeable. However, on a rare occasion, he can exhibit behaviors. It is rare, but if autism behaviors scare you, this is not a good fit. You must have good physical health, as walking the dog, bike rides, trampoline parks, hiking and more are part of his routine. This position is Monday, Tuesday and Friday 7-10 p.m., Saturday 12-4 p.m. and Sunday 3:30-8:30 p.m. Must submit to background check, fingerprints, provide driving record, etc. You will be hired as an employee of Shella Respite Care, and depending on your performance and reliability, your wage will be supplemented by family up to $19/hour. Shella Respite also pays mileage. Interested applicants please reply to this posting via e-mail. Please write a paragraph or two introducing yourself and letting us know a little about your background. Although autism-related work experience is not required, we are interested in why you are applying for this position. Submissions without a paragraph about yourself will not be considered. Please be prepared to submit a resume, along with three references.
