Ink Stone With Lid – 4 ¾ x 2 5/8 - New $12
Intended to be used with ink sticks for sumi-e, brush painting, or calligraphy.
Traditionally ink was produced by grinding an ink stick in water against a piece of slate.
The suzuri stone is often used in illustrations for Japanese Sumi-e instructions. Its grinding area is flat with a sloping indentation which forms a small well at one end.
