When we lose a LOVED Pet.. we have to act fast.

Most people that take in a lost pet either want to keep it and don't tell anyone or they do there best to reunite the pet with its family.

As a rescuer I would like to suggest some of what I do.

Post your find on Craiglist with a picture (It is fastly becoming one of the best links to finding the owners)

Take a picture and make a poster and post it at your local animal shelters. There are boards there that allow you to post them.

Put up posters in the area that you found the loved pet.

When you recieve calls don't give much information. Let them tell you about the pet they lost. A name is a great reference. This way you can call the pet and it should respond.

When you find the owners.... tell them to get tags for their pet.. that way if it gets out again... it can be returned home sooner....

PLEASE DO NOT take the pets to the shelter..

This young dog was found in our neighborhood. She was very hungry and thirsty. She is a very gentle and sweet dog. Not really trained well but very trainable. I am assuming that the owners are looking for her - at least I hope that they are.

I am putting a notice at the Hesperia animal control, but she could also be from Victorville since she was found in Hesperia but close to Victorville. I will not give this dog to just anyone who claims it. You will have to have some proof of ownership. I have had a few odd people contacting me from my first ad about her.

Please do NOT contact me telling me that you want to BUY this dog and to wait for your money order or check! Please do NOT contact me telling me to put her on other websites - I have put her on others as well.

If she isn't claimed by the owners soon - I will have to find her a home. I cannot keep her. I have had her for about a week now.

Large Adorable Golden Retriever found in Murrieta by Alta Murrieta Elem. School. It looks like this dog got off the chain and ran - ended up at our house! Darker color, possibly an older dog, having trouble with the back end as if hips and legs are bothersome.

It's probably a good idea to do your best to prevent your pet from running away in the first place. Before the fireworks begin make sure you bring you pets inside or put them in the garage. And don't let them back outside until the fireworks have ended and your pet is calm. I have 3 dogs and they will definately be inside Friday night. Best wishes.

DO NOT PUT OFF YOUR SEARCH! It is CRITICAL to find your pet as soon as possible. Do not hope that your pet will be found or come home on its own.

Check at the shelter IN PERSON right away! This is critical not only because your pet could be there, but because if your pet takes another needy animal's place at the shelter they will be KILLED. It is a well-known fact that 4th of July is an awful time for shelter animals. GET YOUR PET OUT FAST so that they can have room for the animals that really need it.

Don't try to search alone! It is a big job and you do need help. Ask friends or family - it is an emergency!

Remember: We don't live in "Small Town USA" - we live in major cities with thousands of people. You need to think BIG and think FAR. Don't just guess that someone on your street has your dog, or that putting up a few flyers will work.

Lost gray and white female cat on June 25th, 2008. She is a 16 year old indoor cat that got out in the evening. Very sweet, White on her neck, stomach, hind paws, and white tips on her front paws. Gray everywhere else and her fur is as soft as a chinchilla. Her eyes are green with little bits of white hair under her eyes due to aging.
