An erect evergreen shrub with a woody base and dark green lanceolate leaves. Lion's Tail can grow to 6+ feet tall and nearly as wide but can be kept smaller by pruning. Fuzzy orange tubular flowers are curved and whorled around the flower stems from late spring through fall. Plant in full sun in a well drained soil. Drought tolerant. It can survive temperatures down to 20 degrees F.
Used by the Hottentot tribesmen to promote euphoria and exuberance when smoked.

WOW... what a great plant. For all you people who are tired of green this is the plant for you. A black leaved everygreen grass with whitish-pink spike-like flower clusters. Grows to only about 8 inches high and 12 inches wide. Black Mondo grass spreads somewhat slowly so if you want to cover a larger area it's best to plant more then one. Plant in well-drained soil and protect from snails and sligs. Provide filtered sun to full shade in hotter climates; can take full sun in cool-summer regions. Great to use a casual ground cover in small areas. I planted a few around my pond and it looks great! Very attractive as borders along paths, between flower beds and lawn, among rock groupings, or in rock gardens. This grass is very clod hardy... USDA hardiness zone 5-9 and has been proven hardy to minus 20 degrees
